Post interview lunch

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Yes, it's a bad idea. It's part of the day's plan, not an option at 99% of schools. IU is the only exception I'm aware of.

It's not that I don't want to attend, there is just scheduling conflicts. If not attending is going to hurt my chances, I'm definitely going to have skip out on the previous commitment. Getting into medical school is the most important thing to me right now. Thanks for the quick responses.

It probably won't hurt your chances, but you should make an effort to go. It is an excellent opportunity to learn candid information about the school. There are only a few other commitments that would take priority over this one, but it is possible (for me).

How are there scheduling conflicts? Plane to catch?

Missing the lunch will not hurt your chances.

You will no longer have chance to hurt.

But seriously though, you're going to take the time and money to go all the way to a school that you probably really really want to attend, but then gtfo as fast as you can? What logic?

If I volunteered my team to help interview prospective students/classmates and one of them blew me off, I would be absolutely certain to make sure the adcom heard about it.

Lunch, not a student interview.

This school is my first choice! I definitely care. I will be attending the lunch.

One and the same my friend. Haven't you ever heard the bit about being kind to the secretary and the janitor when you interview with their boss? It's true.

It seems like you knew the answer all along. 😉 best of luck friend

It's not the same as needing to miss a technically-optional portion of the day for logistical reasons. I don't think any of my student ambassadors had lists of the students they were supposed to eat with. It was not that formal at the fair amount of schools I interviewed at.

I agree that you should go, but to say it rules out an acceptance is naive.

What other commitment? I think they will notice if a student is not present at lunch--I would definitely go

I think you should go, better to be safe than sorry. Plus you can get a lot of useful info/questions answered at those lunches
