Should I type or handwrite my thank you notes after an interview? Who, if anyone, besides the interviewer should receive one? Students I spoke to who led our tour? Admissions people who made presentations and knew our names?

Any guidance is appreciated. Thank you.

I sent handwritten notes to my interviewers and one to the director of admissions. In my note to the DOA I asked that he/she extend my thanks to the rest of the admissions staff. I think there are some other threads on this topic. Happy writing!

Thanks. I searched but was unable to find useful links. I'm sure they are out there, so if someone could post one that would be great.

ABSOLUTELY you should send thank-you notes, handwritten as long as it will be legible, to anyone whose name you caught during the interview day. It's only polite, and they'll remember you for it. 😉

forget the thank you notes

it smacks of desperation on your part (vs. the polite and sincere image you are trying to portray)

I sure hope dnelson is kidding there...

Adcoms save your thank you notes in your application file -- it is only appropriate to send a brief handwritten thank you note to a busy person who took time to get a chance to know you...I know of one school that mentions whether or not you wrote thank you notes when your application is considered in committee.

absolutely, send them.

as someone who has had to interview and participate in hiring people at the hospital where I work, I can definitely say that it matters. sure, we know they can be kind of cheesy and banal but most importantly it shows continued interest in the school/job/whatever. we didn't get thank you's from a few job candidates and immediately started making assumptions about their interest level as well as level of professionalism. sure enough, some of those folks contacted us later to tell us they had taken other jobs.

I wholeheartedly agree that thanks are in order. Which people get them depends on how the day is structured. If the Director of Admissions or equivalent person spends a chunk of time with you one-on-one, then by all means include him/her. Otherwise, just the interviewer(s) will do. This helps lock in whatever memories/impressions were established during the interview.

A note doesn't have to be long, but it should definitely be handwritten. Sooner is better, of course.

yeah, definitely send a thank you note. i went to an interview today and they actually gave us an address to send thank you notes without any of us even asking. its definitely expected.

now i'm kicking myself though because i didn't write down the names of the med students who took us around today...would have been nice to thank them in the letter as well.
