Post Interview

I interviewed last year but I can tell you that certain programs may contact you regarding your ranking in their lists. However, this is totally optional on their parts and if you do not hear anything, do not freak yourself out. I did contact my top three programs to let them know that I was ranking them highly or first. I can only stress that you have to be honest when contacting programs - if they are not your first choice, do not say that they are. Good luck! It's a stressful and exciting time.

"highly" is a keyword. Don't ever say "first" unless they are in fact first. Too many parties get burned with this situation.

Yea, I feel like I'm just sitting here in the dark twiddling my thumbs until Match Day. Sure there are a few candidate parties, but everyone and their mother have been invited so it's hard to draw conclusions. I get the vibe if I tell a program they're "very highly" I worry that either the program will interpret it as "you're my #1" or just hear "yea, you're up there but definitely not #1". I'm reading too much into this mess.

I started out writing personal thank you cards to every person who spent time with me on interview day. After the third interview that has gotten really old and really cumbersome!
I've had positive experiences at all interviews thus far. Obviously I can only go to one so it does seem sort of strategic to figure out who to thank and how. Got invited to a second look at my favorite spot (10 minutes from my house, yay!) and the program director told me they would only invite their top 15 to the second look weekend so that seems positive, right?

Second look weekend? What is this magic? I heard of second looks (and heard mixed feelings of "do it they make you look interested" to "don't do them they are a time suck to everyone involved") but I haven't heard of an exclusive second look weekend.

Wait... If I haven't heard of this nor have been invited... then does that mean-...😱!!!

Hahaha

very few program do it. i think out of my 30 interviews, i know 2 of them that do. and yes if you are not invited it probably means you are not in the top. but who knows how low they go down the list. so you still might have a shot.
