So I have a MA in clinical psychology. I'm currently in a PhD program, BUT, I'd like to practice psychology as a therapist and I can't get licensed with just a MA. Thus, I'd like to do a post- masters certificate in social work or family/ couples therapy so I can be more independent and use my degree (instead of waiting the 5 years or so for the PhD to be done!)

I've heard there are programs that offer a certificate for post-masters work that lead to licensure. Does anyone have any info on these types of programs? That will count my MA degree and the clinical hours I've already logged?

Thanks psychologists!!!

Such as a Marriage & Family Therapist license? Your clinical psych MA program did not provide any resources regarding practice post-graduation?

It sounds like it was an academic program (hence the OP being enrolled in a PhD program today). Not all academic programs are licensable--they prepare for doctoral study by grounding students in research.

OP, you might have more luck on the doctoral forum...

^^ This. If the OP is still in a PhD program, then I suspect their MA was earned in the same program. Most programs aren't going to tell you how to practice with a master's degree when it's simply a milestone along the way, not the end goal. The master's in these cases is often not considered a terminal degree so that individuals may go out and practice as soon as they receive it--they immediately progress to the next milestone along the way in the doctoral program.
