I was wondering what are the prospects in India after doing your MBBS? I believe there are more options (incl diploma courses) compared to abroad, or am I wrong?

I have finished my MBBS in Europe and was wondering whether it's valid in India. If not, what steps do I need to take if I want to start practising in India?

Basically I am not interested in regular departments like general medicine, obstetrics ets. I am interested in clinical genetics, mental ******ation, autism etc. Could anyone please give me some relevant advice on what to do and what institutions to contact? I would love to do some research for a period to start with for example.

Thanks in advance.

As a foreign medical graduate you need take FMGE exam counducted by National board of examination, if you manage to clear the exam you will be treated on par with MBBS from India and will be allowed compete for PG position/practice. In that sense it's somewhat like ECFMG certification.
If you want to make career out of treating autistic, spastics or ******s, then logical next step would be specialising in either psychiatry/physical and mental rehabilitation (PMR).
There are both diploma and deegree programmes in both of these specialities. But amount of seats in PMR are very few. Although these are not highly competitive/sought after specialities overall level of competition for any post graduate seat is very tough. For example take my class 120 students from one of the top med college in my state, only 5 have managed to land PG seats in first shot. This has partially has to do with the disparity in relatively few number of PG positions available and large number of MBBS grads churning out of med colleges.
But you can buy yourself out of this situation if you have enough dough. There are plenty of commercial institute which will offer PG seats to the highest bidder.
And if you are a NRI it is the only way you can have a PG seat in India. Other main stream exams are only open for Indian nationals. My advice to you would be to look westward please. Already 15 odd people from class have gone to US. Many more won't make in their second attempt would join them this year. Australia, NZ, Russia, Ireland, China, Mauritius, Canada, Seychelles, you name it, and will find Indian doctors there. Gone are the days when you could make a decent living out of family practice. You have be a specialist if you want to have a good income.
If you determined to come back to India, be very sure of what you are getting into. Because definitely there would be days when you will wonder why am i doing this? I don't want insult anyone but it has been my observation that foreign medical graduates fron Eastern Europe just don't cut the mustard here. There are the people who just couldn't get into medical schools India that is why they went abroad. Offcourse there may be exceptions. But it always helps to be honest with oneself.
I hope this helps
