Just in case. My question is does anyone know the name(s) of schools that have a one year program that is direct entry into medical school? I can't think of the name, but you go to the program for one year. This is almost exactly the same as the first year med students. Depending on your grades then you can get admitted to that school the following year.

One school cames to my mind: Chicago Medical School (Finch)
My friend was admitted to a one year physiological science (Or whatever the name of the program is) program, where she can take classes with first year med students. If her grades are good, she'll be admitted to that med school.

I'm just curious. Suppose somebody takes one of these programs, such as the one at Finch, and takes classes with all the first years. Suppose that person does not do well enough to be admitted to Finch, but does better than some of the first years already attending. How does Finch justify the continued matriculation of these med students when the one they decided not to admit demonstrated better performance.

Chicago Finch has one as does MCP Hannehman (sp?) in Philly, altho they may be going under the name of Drexel now.

I doubt that those in the one year special program has to be above 95th percentile or something in the class in order to be admitted.

As for the current med students who don't do well, most schools will probably put them on academic probation or give them chances to repeat the courses.

Drexel (MCPH) has two different one year programs...however, neither guarantee admission to the medical school if you excel in the program. IMS program requires the mcat..and you take course with the med students and are graded accordingly for a year. You can choose to go onto a second year and get a Masters of Medical Science. Sucky part is that should you get into another medical school BESIDES Drexel, you will probably not be able to transfer the courses you already took. MSP program is one year certificate...doesn't require mcat but recommends although you can have the GRE as a substitute. This program students take grad level bio courses and prep for retake or taking of the MCAT..you are required to take the April MCAT during the program. Again neither guarantees admission to the medical school.

GEMS through Georgetown is similar to the IMS program without the optional second year.
