Haha I don't have the GPA you do (I wish) but the rest of our app looks so similar. I would definitely add some reach schools like Colombia, UPENN etc and see what happens

Do dental school look at BCP more or BCPM. I have a higher BCP than BCPM so I would like to know which one they look at more.

DAT: 22AA, 22TS
Shadowing: 200hrs+ (general). Considering shadowing some specialists.
Volunteering: 100-200 hrs. Haven't really calculated yet. I did a bunch of various service projects
Research: nada
Work: Have work experience as medical assistant (100hrs) , dental assistant (300hrs) , and restaurant worker. Left those jobs to study for DAT and to take care of some personal issues so I'm just a private tutor now because I can set my own schedule.
EC: Good ECs in my opinion
LOR: Dentist, Ochem professor, Micro professor. Honestly the letters from my professors are probably mediocre
Residency: CA
UC Berkeley Graduate, Public health BA
Don't know which schools to apply to. Most of my prereqs done at CC. Cannot apply to schools like UNLV which require one semester/2 quarters of biochem. I only have 1 quarter

1. Western
2. UOP

UOP, Washington, and Maryland will be difficult to get into with your stats.
I would also add Loma Linda, Roseman, and Midwestern AZ, if you wish, I say these because you are a CA resident and all these schools are in CA if not in the surrounding states... I say you have a decent shot at Western.

Dental Experience:348 hours of shadowing/volunteering
The last dental clinic I was volunteering at was a FQHC serves the medically under-served people in my community through 3 large dental clinics. I worked at the main clinc. It also happened to be a clinical rotation site for 4th year UMICH and UDM dental students. The students have given me pretty useful tips in terms of interviews and what they might be looking for. After two months of volunteering they offered me a position as a dental assistant which I am still employed presently. The director of dentistry has offered to write me a strong letter of recommendation. Another dentist who taught at UMICH dental school and supervises the dental students has offered to write me another letter. I am depending on this experience and the recommendations to help me land an interview somewhere.
I have a 3rd letter of recommendation from a private dentist who might join the UDM faculty. I know I don't need three letters from 3 dentists, not sure which letters to use.

Volunteer/EC: I have around 200 volunteer hours from 3 different hospitals. I was a member of the student literacy corps and was a volunteer tutor for at risk elementary-age students. I was the fund-raising chair for HASA (Hmong American Student Association). I'm not Hmong, but I have a lot of friends that are, so I joined.

Work: While in school I was working as a Emergency Medical Scribe. I was responsible for the attending ED physician's medical-legal documentation for all patient encounters. I tracked diagnostic test results and alerted the physician to any critical results (ex: elevated bacteria/WBC in urinalysis rule out UTI or elevated cardiac enzymes noted, start cardiac protocol). This was an intense experience. I know it's suited for medical school, but I feel it is still relevant for my dental application.

Overall I'm right at the edge of feeling like I could get in and feeling like my stats are too low.
Dental schools I'm applying to (please advise):
1.UMICH
2. UDM
3. Midwestern-Downers Grove
4. Midwestern-AZ
5. Tufts
6. Boston U
7. NYU
8. UMN
10. Case
11. Indiana
12. Roseman
13. Western.
14. UNLV
15. USC

Maryland? Oregon? Temple? AZDOH? I've considered these schools too, but I've been told I don't have enough volunteer hours for AZDOH. Oregon isn't OOS friendly.
Which schools should I add or drop? What are my chances? Help me out please!

Same boat as you. Any luck this cycle?

Just as a perspective, I had a 3.7 GPA and a 21 AA/22RC/21 PAT, with over 1000 combined shadowing and volunteering hours, CA resident, research, work, leadership positions, etc. I never got an interview at UOP, although I was never rejected either. I didn't apply to UCSF but I have heard it is equally as competitive if not harder to get in. I can't speak for the east coast or midwest schools but if I may, I would suggest possibly adding more schools (8-12 minimum). Best of luck!

It might, but 22AA with that GPA is great. I mean if you want to make things perfect, you can retake the DAT again, but I probably wouldn't.

disagree with the people saying apply reach unless you're dead set on specializing. And they won't be reaches with your stats

if you get an average DAT (20AAish) your chances are not good unless you're a URM. If you rock the DAT (25+) then you'll have a chance but that SGPA definitely hurts.

Would retake DAT for a solid chance of getting into places. Aim for at least a 22 AA if you want higher chance of getting in. Since your GPA is slightly below average, I think an above average DAT would give you a better shot.

Overall GPA 3.3 Science 3.3 BCP 3.45
Strong upward trend

Also have very strong extracurriculars
Strong letter of rec from dentist that emphasizes this.

Not entirely sure about specializing just yet. I want to just get into school right now and see where dental school takes me

Looks good. I would not mention your Highschool activities, unless you did something crazy cool.

I would add SIU as it is an in state school. Also, I would maybe add Iowa, as it is pretty OOS friendly.

I would say you got some great chances. Just don't limit yourself with 5 schools, add 2 more to be safe if you can. Weird things can happen, and you may have great stats, but mess up an interview. Therefore, you don't want to miss out on a cycle by not having enough schools.

I'm assuming he means Ohio State (OSU), not Oregon Health Sciences (OHSU), so they should be ok.
But yeah if he means Oregon, then you're right; they definitely favor WICHE

Midwestern

Important for me to apply to schools that accept AP/IB credit.

So my GPA just got calculated today and I just want to know how much of a red flag is a science GPA that is much lower than a nonscience GPA? Also on the application there's so many different methods through which GPA is calculated, which GPA do schools give most precedence to?

Hi! I know this is a "chance me" thread, but would anyone mind taking a look at my personal statement before I submit it?

Notes: I am a re-applicant. My previous DAT score was 19 AA, 19 TS, 17 Bio, 19 Chem, 21 Orgo, 18 QR, 20 RC, and 23 PAT. I applied in November (don't even want to get into why that happened), and I had about 56 hours of shadowing. I received one C in Ecology cause my professor had a pinus strobus up his rear when he graded exams. Same semester I withdrew from Biochem cause I honestly couldn't understand my professor's Asian accent. Retook bio chem next semester after outlining the textbook myself, got an A-.
