A quick question about the classes that I should take for postbac. Many classes at the school I'm going to for postbac such as bio, chem, physics, etc have a separate lab "class." So if for example you will have physiology as BIO 300 or something, and the lab for this class will be BIO 301 (or 300L or something.) There is no requirement to take these classes concurrently for the students (or at all really.) Anyways, my question is whether I should take these classes? I ask this only because I wonder if it looks odd that I might take cell bio, but not cell bio lab? I don't want to take them because 1) they take up A LOT of time for only 1 unit, 2) My lab skills are actually very good and I've never received a bad grade in a lab, 3) after a while lab classes overlap and there is so much repetition that for a lack of a better phrase feels like a waste of my time.

So what's the consensus, do you take the associated lab class or not?

The only labs you need to take as a postbacc are the ones required by med schools: chem 1 and 2, org chem 1 and 2, bio 1 and 2, and physics 1 and 2 labs.

If you don't have to take the other ones and don't really want to, no need to add to your schedule of classes.

What if a couple of the classes I want to retake are the ones that are required? I did poorly in ochem2, and physics 2....but at my ug school the labs were not separated so even though I did great in lab, I only received one grade. If I retake these classes then I should also retake the labs I take it?

on the amcas, they ask you to put down that the course has an integrated lab (e.g. organic chemistry I with lab). if you're getting credit for the lab even if you are not taking the lab when you retake the course, i don't think it should be a problem.

I see what you're saying. So since I've taken the class that has the integrated lab I now have credit for the lab and I don't have to retake the separate lab class if I happen to retake the course at a different school.

yes, if you got a passing grade in [class + lab], you've fulfilled the requirement.
