Hey,

I was looking to take a chem+physio class to buffer my gpa and I can either

1. do it at UC berk (cost about 6k)
2. do it at csu/sanjose state/usf/etc for about 3k

I was also looking to get a letter from one of the professors.

Which would you recommend? Would it be okay to go to a "lower tier" school so I can save some $$$.

thanks.

Your grades are more important (generally) than the school from which you get them, though the Berkeley Extension may be able to offer you these classes for less than CSU. They average about $1000 or less per course. Mind you, if you actually need good advice as a post-bacc student, neither of these institutions are all that great (but neither is SDN for that matter).

I started my post-bacc work at UC Berkeley through the extension, and quickly transferred into a formal and more challenging program (Wash U in St. Louis). Many people I met who finished at UCB still got plenty of interviews and acceptances though, so it won't be a bad thing - just depends on how much you need. If you just need the grades and transcript credit, I'd go with UCB.

I agree with above. I think doing well in the courses at any four year university is what is most important. I would do option 2 and I would do the best I could. Good luck!

hey guys, two followups:

1. you guys would definitely recommend the cheaper CSU/state uni over say a CC though right?
2. Would it be okay to get a letter from one of these profs. I'm taking a science course so it would count as one of my science letters. I already got 1 from another prof back at UCSC (my undergrad institution)
