Asking for the sake of knowledge and to help out peers. From what I know it's a way to increase GPA. Do well here (even better if they're upper div science courses) and an underwhelming undergrad GPA would be more excusable.

Does this sound about right? Do these programs lead to a certificate/how long is it? Is there a specifc pre-dental post bacc program that's needed? Is it the same as a Master's? Appreciate any feedback!

In addition: How do you choose where to go? Do you apply to many post bacc programs or just one? At what point should one consider post bacc (GPA cutoff?)

I recently completed the Postbacc program at UConn to enhance my academic record as my science GPA was low during my undergrad. From what my advisors have said it is optimal to take a full upper-level science courseload
and basically get all A's, although a B+ or two wouldn't kill you. Adcoms would see the upward trend as they see your postbacc GPA separately on your application in comparison to your undergrad GPA, thus showing you are likely capable of handling the rigors of dental school.

At UConn the record enhancing program is one year, and it leads to a certificate which doesn't really count for anything but is just verification you completed the program. The program combines medical and dental students into one group so there really isn't anything special about it that makes it "dental", your schedule is tailored to whatever classes are appropriate for you. Your course load is customized to whether you are applying medical or dental, it is not necessary to go to a postbacc that is specifically for dental because there is no difference as most of the prereqs overlap with medical anyways.

What was the cost of this program?
