Hey all,

I am looking for some advice. My stats aren't great, but are as follows:

3.2 overall GPA
3.0 science GPA
498 MCAT

I have taken the MCAT 3 times, with no increase in score (24, 24, 498). I know I need to boost my score in order to have a chance at any medical school, but I feel a bit defeated mentally because of my history with this exam.

I applied for a bunch of schools this cycle and did not get admission. I have been out of school for a while now, and it's making me antsy. I feel like I have been stagnant on my journey towards med school, with the MCAT being the main thing standing in my way. I am ready to take another route with hopes of tackling the MCAT down the road.

With that being said, any advice on what will help me more, postbacc or masters? At this point, I just want to get back into school. I don't want to take another year off just trying to study for the MCAT again, that has not been working for me.

Any advice will be more than appreciate. Thank you so much.

Also, I would consider my extra curricular resume / letters of recommendation to be very strong.

A lot of programs include MCAT training so I think that will be beneficial for you. Plus, the programs have you take tons of courses which will show schools that you in fact can handle a rigorous courseload. Good luck!

Some SMPs can guarantee you a spot for the next class as long as you meet requirements. From looking at threads on here/talking with friends who are in SMPs, VCOM, LECOM, Western-U, and Touro-NV are good ones that will guarantee you a seat in the next class as long as you meet requirements. Your stats are competitive for any of these SMPs. I dont think you're competitive for any MD SMPs, since they usually take people with higher MCAT scores. They are expensive though, and I think VCOM doesnt have access to federal loans yet.

These programs are hard so I dont think doing MCAT studying along with doing these programs would be wise.

You have a very weak application on your hands. Your best move if you want to be a doctor is to do an SMP with linkage.

I agree, I think you should look into some of the SMPs with a linkage. The downside of course is that they can be quite expensive, but if you're dedicated to a career in medicine, it'll be worth it.

That's a tough one. Gonna be brutally honest opie but you need to develop a planB at this point.
