Hello all! I'm a first time poster in this forum and I was hoping if you guys could help me. I just recently became interested in pursuing a career in pharmaceuticals, but since I just realized what I wanted to do, I am a afraid I am a little late.

I'm mid- way through my 2nd year at UCLA and I am still undeclared and my science gpa is abysmal and my cumulative is 2.7. I came in as a science major, so I've taken many of my pre-reqs already.

I hate to start another thread about post-baccs, but if someone could it explain it to me that would be great. I feel like it is the only hope in making me anywhere near competitive for pharm school.

Thank you again and I'll gladly provide anymore info if needed!

and sorry for the bad title...I intended for a question mark :l.

Yikes, it's way too early to give up on yourself... Junior/Senior year is when everyone has their upward trend. It's totally not too late to figure out what the hell is going on causing you such problems.

Time management would be my guess. You should take stock of your time usage to deduce what you could be doing more efficiently. Perhaps when you're studying, you're just looking over the book and not really practicing like you should be doing.

Regardless, the middle of your Soph. year is not the time to start looking at post-bacc options, holy crap. Just... no!!!!!!!!!!!!

Step back, get some help, something. If you can't turn it around by the end of your Junior year maybe you can start feeling around for other options but man I gotta tell ya, if you're getting torn up by pre-requisites, just taking them at another school isn't going to help you. I don't care what anyone else says, pharmacy school is every bit as hard as those pre-requisite courses (especially for us non super-science nerd folks, I am definitely NOT one)... So figure out what the heck's going on.

thanks for the reply. sorry for freaking out ahah, it's just finals week and stressful i suppose. I'm just worried because I'm almost done with my pre-reqs and had a bad freshman year, but thank you for the advice!

You are not the only one. Holy crap. Even if you do the pre-requisites with mostly Cs, and have a strong upward trend in Jr/Sr years, it won't even matter. You gotta get your anxiety under control that's for one thing.

But, seriously, if you ARE doing that poorly you absolutely must take stock of what it is that's going wrong. Most often, when I make someone sit down and write every single hour of their day, they waste a whole lot more time than they thought they did...

Thanks for the advice. I will do the every hour thing 🙂, ha i needed the that, my friend is also relieved that you gave me a dose of reality.

Finals is next week, ain't it? 😉 Perhaps that's more important than SDN. 🙂

On the 5th quarter of my college education, I had a staggering 2.8 cumulative GPA. From that point on, I really changed my attitude and got back into the game. I had to retake two failed courses, endure two summer quarters, and take additional classes during the year to pull my grades up. However, I consistently did well in all my later coursework and graduated cum laude with a 3.5 cumulative and 3.8 science GPA in biochemistry. Good luck because we all have it in us.
