Quick question about author orders. If I'm the 2nd author for an upcoming manuscript, but will be making/presenting a poster or oral presentation for a conference, do I get to change to author order so that I'm 1st author? I would be the sole presenter of the project.

Nope.

If it's a requirement for the venue that the presenter must be the 1st author, you would obviously need to talk to the PI and first author beforehand

Yes.

If you made the poster/oral presentation and you are presenting it at the conference, you can be the first author in that. This is standard practice - you are first author if you are presenting it. Talk to your PI and first author and acknowledge whatever work the 1st author did in the poster.

You will still be second author for your manuscript.
