my research mentor told me that posters can be submitted to multiple
conferences, though the paper can be sent to only one journal at a
time.

thus our case report has been accepted as a poster at a few different conferences. one conference is upcoming, and meanwhile, our case was accepted for publication in a good journal. the latest conference acceptance has rules about the submission not being accepted elsewhere, which made
me uncomfortable. so i emailed them and told them the status and await
their reply.

what is your understanding of submitting a poster to multiple
conferences? i am unclear and am worried my mentor may misunderstand the situation. thanks for the help.

All of my posters have been to multiple conferences.

I'm pretty sure it is common practice.

I also think it is prudent not to display results in the form of a poster or oral presentation until either the manuscript has been submitted or near submission.

This will prevent you from being scooped by the nefarious amongst us.
