Hello,

I understand the major pros and cons of this scholarship...but i am having some serious doubts because of the recent cut from the military tuition assistance programs....:scared:

people who are in contract but don't get assistance from the government still have to serve their time even if they don't get funding because of the cut

honestly if the government is going to cut from the military...how much more likely is it that NHSC will get cut??

just curious on some input....

by the way...do any of the past recipients or has anyone heard of anyone having problems completing completing their term? i've heard of some that had to repeat a service term for certain reasons....

thanks!

I don't really understand what you're saying in this post, but I'm curious as to why there are a lot less people applying for the NHSC Scholarship program (based on their application guidelines). There was a drop in recent years of applicants. But what exactly do you mean by having to serve your contract even if you don't get funding? I understand that if they fund you for that year, then you have to serve a year for them. If there is no funding for you, then I assume you won't have to serve that year.

I think the OP may be discussing how your NHSC site may no longer receive federal funds for your employment while you're serving, at which point the site will lay you off. The time you owe doesn't go away, and you're on the hook to find a new site to work at which involves a lot of moving and hassles.

As for the applicant drop, I imagine the cons outweigh the pros for them. Perhaps they don't want to be too far behind the timetable for specialization.

Well what's happening right now is that there is a $373 million cut for the military on tuition assistance...hence military not paying for tuition
So people who are under the scholarship won't get their tuition fees and college education paid for....
But they still have to serve that year even if they don't get military help
So I was wondering about the chances of NHSC having something like that?

Or if anyone had a negative or positive experience ... Any input would be great...

Are you sure your statement is accurate? So you're saying that the military pretty much "tricked" the students into signing a contract, and now that they can't hold up their end of the deal, the students must still serve in the military? I don't understand, but I doubt thats exactly whats happening.
