Hey, I was wondering. How generous are your medical schools with respect to providing practice problems/questions or old exams? Mine is super stingy about this.

They claim it is because it is hard to right questions and thus don't want to give many samples or give the old exams up. To me, that rationale sounds stupid, and I bet they are reusing old questions or modified old questions. And not letting us see the old exams has more to do with it.

Part of it is that it's not college anymore and pre-clinical grades don't matter (if you're at a pass/fail school) or don't matter much. Why spend the extra effort making new questions, when what really matters is whether you have sufficient mastery over the material. Successfully passing the pre-clinical years is more about signalling basic competency in the material/your ability to learn stuff, rather than how you compare to your peers.

Mine has ONE online practice exam per test we take. But they won't give us our test back afterwards, only for 1.5 hours to look at and ask questions. So yeah, stingy.

We don't even get our tests back! EVER! We get a "key words" sheet to tell use the question topic... and then we get a missed questions report, but never the actually test.

More than me. We get one or two questions per exam usually. One prof gave us a whole bunch once and I dominated that test. The rest are usually stingy.

my school is really good about giving practice quizzes (self assessments) and gives us an answer key to look at after exams. Also, passing along old exams isn't strictly forbidden although they warn us that there could be a lot of out-of-date questions

We have "sample questions" in our anatomy syllabus for each exam, but they are just hand-picked BRS questions from that section. They are slightly more difficult than our actual exams, so if we understand enough to do well on the sample questions, we should (in theory) be good for the exam. Most people supplement with additional BRS questions or the quizzes from the UMich website. We are allowed to see our exams afterward and take notes on what we missed. This is only for anatomy...I have no idea what the rest of the year has in store.

I don't really mind not being able to keep the test, but that might be because I'm used to it from undergrad.

many other schools post public practice questions. PM me if you are interested. I am reluctant to start advertising them in the event that the schools decide to take them down. Also a quick googling of your course title and the phrase "medical quiz" can do wonders for you.
