Ok, potentially stupid question: can I practice psychiatry in California as a DO if I graduated from an AOA only residency (in another state)? My residency recently lost its ACGME status (ugh). I know the California license application asks for ACGME residency proof, and I'm not sure if that's intentional (i.e., you can only practice in CA if you went to an ACGME approved residency program) or an oversight (i.e., DO/MD, what's the difference).

Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Are you saying that your residency was dually accredited ACGME/AOA and now it's just AOA accredited?
As long as it's still AOA accredited, you should be fine. You might have only seen references to ACGME because Cali has a separate osteopathic medical board: http://www.ombc.ca.gov/

Oh, Ok! Thanks for the explanation, peppy! Do you practice in CA?
