I know there are a lot of International Students that study Dentistry here in the US. Does anyone know if we can practice dentistry outside of the US after graduating? I'm just thinking that with the falling dollar, many places outside of the US look attractive and may provide better lifestyles than here in the US.

Depends on the country, but it should be OK for the most part. For example, if you obtain your DDS in the states and plan to go to Taiwan and practice, you will have to pass the boards there. However, though material maybe the same, you are taking it in an entirely different language.

I believe you can work in Saudi Arabia for the government owned oil company (Saudi Aramco) with a US dental education. Don't know about the salary but it's probably decent. You would live in compound with other Westerners.

few countries at this point will allow you to make the kind of money you could make here

Here at Sydney University in Australia we just got a new Endo tutor this year who is a UNC grad (she and her husband are both American endodontists) and have come here because they said they can make more money and have a better lifestyle here.

If you're American you can work in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand without "too" much trouble. For the most part your qualifications are recognised.. you may just have to sit some exams. (Canadian Board exams or ADC)

I did notice the Canadian dollar is worth more than the US at the moment. 👍

But taxes are less in Australia than in Canada and the weather is much better! 🙂

Sydney University takes 10-13 North American students every year into their dental program. (mostly Canadians).

Apparently, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide University's dental schools are on track to obtain CODA accreditation in US and Canada in the next few years anyhow.

Our Vet school just obtained US/Canadian accreditation last year.

What about if you aren't concerned about living more comfortably than in the US or making more money? Anyone have any information about other countries where you can practice pretty easily overseas? As in you don't have to do any more school and they'll accept the US degree.

Go to eastern europe...great weather, cheap vodka, nonviolent and they probably don't care what kind of degree you have...I hear you can make $400 a week no prob over there

Australia would have been one of the countries I was referring to.

Dr.Millisevert,
studying in Australia is looking really appealing to me right now. (I'm a Canadian from BC). Any idea of how much international student fees are at Sydney?

The fee is AU$42,960 per year for 2008

42,960AUD or 36,773.68CAD or 38,338.85USD 👍

thanks for the reply!

that's actually cheaper than my current school's DMD fees...
