Hi! I'll be starting dental school soon, and I was wondering if it will be worth the time over school breaks (2-3 weeks long max) to practice things like polishing at a clinic. The clinic Im working at is offering me to do so, but I'm not sure how intense dental school is yet and if it will be worth my time to instead spend time to see family and friends, even if I only have to work maybe 2x a week.

Do any dentists here actually regret not getting practice over the break to hone the skills or is it better to relax to avoid burnout?

Polishing? Like polishing teeth for a prophy? How nice of the practice you work at to try to get you to do free labor. That’s not something you need to practice.

Enjoy your breaks. You’ll learn more in an hour practicing as an actual dentist than you would in 3 weeks polishing during your break.

It saddens me that there’s so many scam artists in our profession. Don’t entertain that nonsensical offer. You’ll look back in a couple of years and realize how silly that is.
