Practicing in another geographic area versus school location

Hi- not sure if this is the right place for this question, but I was wondering if anyone has insight into how easy/hard it is to practice in a different geographic location versus where you go to school. For example, I'm a New England native but TX resident and thus plan on applying/attending one of the three TX schools, but plan on returning to New England after graduation. What's your take on this?
