Practicing in Ohio...

How are the demographics for practicing in ohio right now. are the bigger cities such as cleveland, columbus, and cinci saturated or is there a good outlook?

I am from central Ohio area, and I would say Northern Columbus (towards Westernville, Dublin, etc) are relatively saturated. Cleveland and Cinci also have their saturated areas too, for obvious reasons.

I'm in Cleveland. My understanding is that the majority of dental students in Ohio are leaving Ohio. I believe I heard that every year only about 7 students from Case will stay in Ohio, Ohio state is probably more. I think there's plenty of room in Cleveland and surrounding counties. As far as Northeast Ohio goes, I think Mentor/Kirtland or Akron/Canton would be nice areas.

As for myself, I might end up in Australia after I graduate, or at least somewhere like Arizona, get me away from these cold midwestern winters for awhile! Although I do love the Autumns here, but the winters are miserable.

To each their own I suppose... I would rather live somewhere that has 4 seasons rather than in a desert. I also like the idea of living by the largest concentration of fresh water in the world instead on hoping a reservoir stays full so that I can take a shower and have my coffee in the morning... Pluses and minuses to everywhere you live.

Arizona will not be cold, but is saturated with dentist as well; unless you work on the Navajo res.

new grads...don't come to phx until you can do molar rct in under 2 hours, are skilled at surgical extractions, and can do 10-15 minute build ups with crown preps. with the economy the way it is, you will not get a job unless you can do this stuff...or you will not last very long there

We keep hearing about how all these places are saturated with dentists... Aren't all these baby-boomers supposed to be retiring in some max exodus soon and leave all sorts of gaps to fill for up and coming new graduates? guess the economy isn't helping, maybe in 5-6 years when I'm out of school/GPR there will be more choices and less crowding.

On average, west coast has lower net income than the east coast. According to ADA; Midwest, South East and New England area are the best spots.
