I recently bought an old examkracker's verbal 101 books that has the old MCAT format (9 passages, 60 questions). Has anyone else used this for the new version of the test? My scores are going up from using this as practice but I know there are differences between these and the new test i.e. number of questions and such.

That's what I use as well. It's the same stuff, just a couple extra passages and questions per section. That really doesn't change anything and is good for practice.

The older EK 101 verbal is preferable to the new version because it has more questions which means more practice. All the new version did was cut out questions to reach the new format. There are no new passages or questions in the current EK 101 verbal.

Sorry to resurrect this thread from the dead, but I have the older version of Exam Krackers Verbal 101 as well and I was just wondering, since there are more questions per passage in this older version, if we should adjust our time spent per passage for this book compared to the real MCAT?

How many minutes per passage should I spend when practicing with this book, and how many minutes per passage should I spend when practing with the current MCAT verbal?

Also, is it wise to do a few passages per night, or only take entire verbal sections (9 passages) at a time? Thanks for any insight!

You should aim for ~6-7 minutes per verbal passage for both the EK Verbal 101 and AAMC FL VR sections, work towards 6 minutes.

Now if there were plenty of good verbal resources, I'd suggest a full VR section everyday. By the way, I believe the current MCAT has 7 verbal passages per VR section. Since there are only two good verbal sources outside of the AAMC FLs (which should ONLY be used as FLs), I'd go with ~3 passages per day.

The two sources are EK Verbal 101 and TPRH Verbal Workbook. The workbook can be found from time to time in the For Sale forum.

Thanks for being true to form and, as usual, giving a clear and helpful answer. I'll start with the 3 passages a day until they run out (with 6 minutes/passage).

Oh yeah if you're sticking with only EK Verbal 101, you might want to do 2 passages per day so the book lasts longer. Again, not ideal, but that's how it goes sometimes. You can either do a couple throughout most of your schedule or take one more per day and run out quicker.

I have a quick question. I am taking the January MCAT and I'm doing all my verbal practice now. I have a schedule set out so that I will be doing 1 EK 101 verbal test about every two days (taking the immediate following day to review the exam for about an hour or so). Do you think this is okay, or should I switch to doing a few passages daily and reviewing that same day?

Thanks for your advice!
