Hello, I am posing this question just to see how the different schools operate. So in the pre-clinical classes do your instructors do a traditional lecture (like in undergrad or like the basic science courses) or do they expect you to read the vast majority on your own and just give an "outline" of the material during the didactic portion of the course? Also, in the lab do you feel like you get a thorough demonstration or does the instructor explain to you how it is to be done and then tell you to work? Again, I just want to see how other schools operate and not get lectured on professional school, adult learning, or any other teaching philosophy

we have preclinic every tue and thurs from 12:30 until 4:30 (really until whenever you want). The first hour to 1.5 hours is lecture. We talk about tooth anatomy, laterotrusive, protrusion, occlusion, some anatomy, etc. Typical restorative stuff you will see on the boards.

Then we watch a small video on how to do something...like a wax up or acrylic temporary then go to the preclinic and actually do the project. Most of what we learn is in the handouts we get, BUT a good grade in the class is usually supplemented by doing the assigned reading. Our first test was like 300 pages about tooth anatomy (height of cusps, proximal contacts, blah blah) and now we read various articles about the topics we cover.

All in all it is one of the more fun classes in school because of the hands on. i have a website about some of the stuff we have done in our preclinic. I cannot post about it but look in my signature.👍 😉
