Hello! Submitted in late July/early August for many schools, and very lucky and grateful to have 4 IIs, but I'm currently debating on whether I should send a pre-II update to 20-ish schools I've got radio silence from (especially the schools that started super early like Jefferson).

Specifically, I'm wondering whether I should send it now, or wait for the release of this semester's grades in about ~2 weeks. I think my updates constitute enough for an update letter currently, including a minor school award for an activity, a project presentation, a new job, and a new volunteering position. Adding a semester of great grades wouldn't hurt, but I'm not sure how much it would help, either. The waiting is kind of making my stomach turn, but I don't want to make a rash decision.

Any ideas on when to send this out?

The key question for me is do schools want updates or not. Some like the University of Colorado (I interviewed Dr. Soohoo, the admissions dean, last week) clearly do not. Others like Tulane "encourage it throughout the process." (The quote is also from an interview) However, most schools do say on their sites if they welcome or discourage/ignore updates. Also some schools limit the number of updates they are willing to accept. Obviously for those programs, wait until you also have the grades.

Two weeks is a negligible difference, so if you anticipate the fall grades helping your cause then at this point you should probably wait
I'd say wait for the grades to round it out.

Re: updated grades, imo it's definitely worth an update if the course you recently took is one of the school's prerequisites.
Thank you all for the insight. At this point, I'm definitely waiting!
