I've got three: Penn State, GWU, USF. I wonder at this late in the game, with my stats (26, 3.6), what the odds are that I will get an interview at these schools. I would appreciate if anyone has any experience with this, or knows the kind of stats needed to get off the dang hold lists. Thanks, I appreciate it. Good luck to all.

I was put on hold (pre-interview) at UC Irvine, and after speaking to the admissions director (fantastic thing to do if you can get a hold of that person), I was told to send in an additional letter of rec, if I had any, and also a letter from me as an update and telling them why I want to go to their school. Basically, she said to add things to my file so that they have to review it again rather than having it sit in a pile in the corner. The admissions director told me that they wanted to know how I was doing nationally with this process (ie- was I getting interviews elsewhere?). So the best thing would be to try to speak to someone in admissions (preferably, someone nice and knows what they're talking about) from those schools. I got lucky with this school because the admissions director was so nice. Some other schools- not so much! Anyway, I ended up getting an interview there! So I think being the squeaky wheel helped with this one.

Hi NorCalGirl! Do you mind sharing with us where you had success with this approach besides UCI and where people weren't so nice?

Honestly, I tried this with UCSD and they simply said that they would add my update letter to my file... haven't heard anything yet! So far, my worst experiences with admissions people have been at UCLA!

I've had a few unpleasant experiences over the phone with the admissions people at UCI. How did you actually get through to the admissions director?

Oh the woman who answers the phone at UCI is just plain mean. But I emailed the admissions director directly.

I got a hold before the interview from GW. I think they just can't deal with the numbers coming in. Sad really.

i got the same runaround news from PSU and GW. i even had a doctor that works on the admissions committee write me an extra rec at PSU but nothing has worked yet. he says they take people from that list but it's not looking good. as for GW, i think we're all dead, they got 9000 apps this year.
