I'm leaving to go to Croatia June12 - July 13 for a study abroad program and to shadow a physician. I want to apply to med school the first week of June, but really want to add this experience to my resume. Am I able to put this in my application when I apply in June, or should I wait? I feel that this would be an impressive addition to my resume, unless perhaps some of you think otherwise. Should I wait and apply after I get back mid July to apply? Any advice would be appreciated.

Apply in June, do not put Croatia on your application. Talk about Croatia in secondaries.

+1

Applying early is better than adding another EC. Have fun in Croatia and:luck:

How are you going to describe how meaningful it is for you when you haven't even done it yet?

I think there is a section on the AMCAS for future plans, IIRC. Plus you can definitely add it to the secondaries.

I wouldn't delay my AMCAS for something as minor as a one time shadowing experience abroad, but I guess that also depends on the relative strength of your other shadowing and clinical experiences.

I wouldn't wait until July just to add that experience. You can still put it in your application in June (albeit the quality won't be as great). I don't think there's a future section, but the dates only go by month/year so you can just mark it as starting June/2013. Since it won't be something you've done prior to submitting, you can't really say what you learned from the experience, but you can still describe what the program is and what activities you expect to be doing. Just err on the side of caution and only list things you know you will be doing for sure. You don't want to be in the situation where they ask about a specific activity and you ended up not doing it.

you can't list a future experience on AMCAS, your experiences/activity entries must be something you have already done or are currently doing
