hey guys, i got a letter for this pre-matric program. i guess it just teaches you how to study in the core first year classes. but i gotta cut my europe trip short by about 11 days (maybe i can just move it up)... so i gotta figure it out. but what do you guys think? I guess being prepared is a good thing, but then again, having time off to enjoy stuff right before school starts is an advantage. the sheet says it teaches "learning strategies and survival skills." in physio, biochem, gross, micro and development. holla.

1) It's going to be hard whether or not you take the pre-matriculation course.
2) If you start hitting the wall, the school will have resources available during the semester.
3) You already know how to study, right?

...I would say skip it.

I have been planning on quitting my job 2 months before matriculating so I could relax. Today, I mentioned to my girlfriend (who is in her last year of residency) that I was thinking of doing a small research project during my time off. She said, "No Way!!! do not do anything, but relax and have fun. You are about to start a long road. This will be one of your last chances to have time to yourself. I will not allow you to do anything but relax." So, based on the advice of my g/f who has been through med school and years of residency.... Don't take the course. Stay in Europe, enjoy the food and wine. There will be plenty of time to study. And the evil doctor is correct, school will help you if you're having problems with the study thing.

Good Luck, Enjoy Europe. I hear Prague is amazing.

yes, don't study~ you don't want to tire yourself out early on in the first year. enjoy your trip! 😀

I'm going to do it, but I have had 4 years in between ugrad and starting med school. I had plenty of time to do whatever the heck I wanted (well, more than I'll ever get in med school). For myself, I'd like to be familiarized with some of my classmates and the course work before I jump in for real. 🙂

I'll see you guys in Europe. I lived there for 5 years before coming back almost 2 years ago to do post bacc and apply. I can't wait to get back and have some more fun.

I agree with most of the above - if you dont' know how to study yet, then how the hell did you get here already. Plus, you'll be known as the nerd who showed up early the entire time at med school. 🙂 I just know I'll be knee deep in it for the next decade, so enjoy life for a bit while I can before I'm too old to appreciate it.

See you guys in Prague, Greek Islands, Costa del Sol, Munich (ah . . . Beer Gardens in Summer), and everywhere in between. Let me know if you need any recommendations.

So you're doiing the UMD pre-matricuylation program? I really want to do it, but I work until June 10th or something. I wonder how important the first few days are?

I'm not really sure how important the first few days are, I sent in a request for more information awhile ago and they have not gotten back to me. 😡
