Pre MCAT Screen.

Will MD schools actually wait for your score before doing any evaluations whatsoever or will they automatically screen sub-par gpa's regardless of score.

Read that here.

any truth to that?

If med schools follow the "holistic" approach that they keep trying to convince everyone they take, then I would think they would wait until the MCAT is in no matter what the GPA is. What if its a 45 from a person with a 2.0 GPA?

A 2.0/45 wouldn't be particularly attractive....

Really, anything <3.0 GPA or 25 MCAT requires a pretty d*mn good excuse on the part of the reviewer to recommend extending an interview invite.

so for those who are taking the june mcat - would you recommend on waiting till you get the score before sending in secondaries?

yea i have the same question...not sure what to do since i want to apply early but im taking the june mcat so no score until the end of july =/

Are you a highly competitive applicant otherwise? (3.7+ GPA, 200+ hrs clinical volunteering, at least 1 yr of research, strong undergrad institution, etc.) Are you consistently scoring 32+ on your AAMC practice tests?

If not, you may want to wait and apply early the following cycle. Every yr is tougher and if you're not ready, you won't get in and it does look bad to have to reapply. Everyone knows you are table scraps at that point -- rejected by everyone the previous round. New applicants are fresh and clearly have the advantage.

As long as you indicate you will take a future MCAT, the schools will wait to review your application.

If you don't mention you are retaking, they will review your app right away and can reject you.
