I just found out that the committee at my school decided not to mail their recommendation letter without the MCAT score 🙄 . I'm taking it in August which means that they won't send the letter until October? Does it really hurt my application? At what point are LORs generally mailed to schools? After secondaries? I appreciate any help.

I have a similar question. My premed committee already wrote my letter. They will mail it as soon as I provide them with preaddressed/stamped envelopes. When should I do it? I have been holding off because I'm still waiting to receive secondaries. In fact, AMCAS has processed my app but does not show it as "transmitted" yet. I imagine that if schools don't even have my app yet, it's too soon to send the LOR's because they won't have a file on me yet. What do you guys think?

AMCAS supposedly won't be including transmitted info this year. When you have gotten e-mail from most to all of the schools confirming they have received your application is likely a good time to mail out your letters.

DO NOT send in your lor's until your receive requests for them. Requests for LOR's accompany secondaries. If you send in your LOR's earlier, the will just get shredded. Just sit tight and wait for your secondaries.

As for your question apparation. The sooner the better. The later you can send in your letters, the later your file will be complete. Unfortunately, this is one of the downsides of taking the August MCAT.

Thanks for your response! Can I still submit the secondaries without the LORs?

I'm curious if this is the norm at other schools -- committee waiting for mcat scores before mailing out the letter. I was under impression that these are totally separate things and that I am not even required to disclose my score to the committee.

Sure, you can send in your secondaries w/o your lor's. Most schools will have a deadline for you to send back all of the info though. I'm not sure what to say about the committee letter and mcat scores. My committee wrote my letter without my scores (I was an August mcater). If you score well on you mcat, it will definitely allow the committee to write a stronger letter. Don't stress though. Schools that pre-screen won't send out secondaries (and won't want lor's) until they get your mcat scores.

Will do.

It's annoying that AMCAS won't tell us when the app has been transmitted. I guess I can stop compulsively checking their website now. If I don't hear anything from UNC in another week, I'll have to call them and make sure they got my app.
