Hey Everyone,

I just have a quick question about pre-med committees...How hardcore recommended are these??? I'm just wondering because at Baylor it seems like everyone does it, and I've actually already had three science LOR's submitted to the committee. Buttt, in preparation for the MCAT and a very busy semester, I haven't had the time to write my personal statement yet, therefore haven't submitted my committee application for an interview yet So I don't know when I will get the LOR from the committee. So basically my questions are:
-Do you recommend a pre-med committee interview and LOR?
-Does the Pre-med committee LOR include my three science LORs or are they replaced with this?
-Do I need this pre-med committee LOR before I do the primary med school application, or for secondaries?? (I just don't think I am going to get an interview until this summer or early next fall.)
-Do pre-med committees ever write a BAD LOR for you? I mean that would be awful.
Thanks guys!

I think most secondaries will ask you to submit the committee LOR or else explain why you didn't (assuming that you were supposed to send it if you could), or else send individual letters if your school didn't have such a committee.

You will definitely want to get working on your PS and begin the process to set up your pre-health committee interview. Chances are most, if not all, med schools that you apply to will be familiar with your school's committee and will highly value the LoR that it supplies. Typically the interviewee yields his/her right to view the letter so you won't know if it's good or bad; but at my school the interviewers will sort of let on if they feel that you should not request a letter from the committee after your interview.

And the committee typically uses the other rec's that you supply it to modify the letter that it will provide.

Best of luck!

Hey I went to Baylor too! I did the premed committee interview and it went pretty well. Some tough questions especially since I was a borderline applicant. I didn't get in the first time I applied, but I got in this year. Nancy Johnson was so helpful during the second time around. You should really get to know her. She redid my committee letter with new recommendations from my profs. It looks kind of bad if you don't do the premed committee interview if your school has one and I think Baylor is known for writing really honest LORs. Could be good or bad. You are gonna need it for the primary med applications in Texas.
