Ok, so I know it really doesn't matter what the major itself is but I'm still racking my brain on what to major in once I transfer to a new school in 2 months. I discounted Bio as an option early on as it seems as though it's too common on applications. Plus, what would I do if medicine didn't work? I had finally realized I liked History so much I should major in it. Recently, I've been tempted into a business type degree being the realistic/pessimistic person I am. I've been considering Economics, Finance, and Accounting. I think my backup plan to a healthcare career would be in the field of banking or somewhere in business. Now I'm thinking of trying a double major (Bio and something else). Would a double major in Bio and Econ/Finance/or even History give me an edge considering avg stats? I figure if I'm going to take so many science classes for pre-med I might as well at least minor in it. I figured my timeline for finishing is about 6-7 semesters fulltime starting this summer. I think I could finish the double major in that timeframe. Although, the Finance/Acct/Econ (BS) have a heavier load than Bio, Econ (BA), and History. Sorry for the rant!! FYI, I'm finishing up 6 years in the Air Force and been to Iraq. This might help set me apart from the pack as well, right?

Any advice for the confused Pre-med? Thanks.

1. Major in whatever you would do for a career if you didn't go to medical school (keep in mind that a non-science major may take more time to complete, but you will be no more or less prepared for medical school.)

2. Don't waste your time with a double major. There is ABSOLUTELY no reason to waste your time with that. Major in whatever you are interested in and take the med school prerequisites. A double major will not benefit your application as much as volunteering in the hospital will, for example.

I agree 100% w/ OSUdoc....major in whatever you find interesting....and do what you have to do to get into med school....just have a good advisor to keep you on track w/ whatever your goals end up being.

Errrr, not accounting. You will want to jump off of a cliff when you go through intermediate accounting 2. If you are into it and write good papers go with history. Have the confidence that you will be accepted into med school.
