Working in a lab at the medical school you want to go to will get your foot in the door, like an interview invite. It will not make miracles happen though. I think if you need the extra boost, ie. your stats are borderline competitive, then it'd be worth a shot. If this school is more of a super reach for you, then I would just take the paid position.

But um, you haven't officially been offered the paid position, yet, so don't start counting your chickens before they hatch.

Good luck on your interview! 🙂 :luck:

If you are currently already in a gap year why do you care if the position will be for 2 years? Isn't a gap year from applying your senior year, then having a year off before starting med school?

PS: I would do the one for money. Kill two birds with one stone... even better, be awesome at your job and get a great LOR: kill three birds with one stone.

Get a publication. Kill 4 birds with one stone.

Pick up nerdy chicks who are attracted to your research credentials. Kill 5 birds with one stone.

Not sure about the physics behind this particular stone throw.
