Do you cuff/roll your pants?

Curious to see what a small SDN sample reveals.

Personally, I partake in the cuffing occasionally. Not religiously, but whenever I feel like it.

What does this mean?

You roll up your jeans into capris? You just roll them once for a distinguished cuff? Or because they are too long?
What is the point of a cuff? To catch that last .01mg of spilled unknown when your clumsy partner knocks the apparatus over?

"Whew, don't worry bro. Sure you just spilled '3 hours of lab work' all over the bench -- our melting point will be an embarrassment. It's okay tho, I cuffed my pants today for a reason. Fetch my microspatula."

...No, I buy pants that fit.

this.

plus, why does the poll take such an attack stance if you do not 'cuff'?

i don't cuff, but i certainly don't have an opinion about those who do. why do i care about your pants?

bad poll 👎

I preferred them rolled. Cuffing them seem like you're trying too hard.

"Cuffer" and "roller" sound like terms I'd use to describe various recreational drug users

Is this thread for realsies?

I kind of don't think so. If someone out there thinks there is actually a "premed style," much less one that involves either of these two things, then just kill me now.

I have no idea if this is what the op is referring to but this was my first thought:

Most raw selvage denim comes default with a 36in inseam, people like to cuff/roll the denim as it will create a different fade rather than getting them hemmed. There's also the fact the it's usually not a good idea to hem the raw denim before you get it as they will shrink before you hot soak/wash it which can screw with the hem and length.

I don't cuff or roll (what is the difference?), but my thesis advisor does this to his jeans. The pants seem to be the right length after he rolls (or cuffs?) them...

Maybe I'm the only one. The difference between the two is pretty subtle.

I have to cuff when I wear flats. It makes me sad. This thread really hits a soft spot.....🙁

That looks completely stupid. Unless you're running through puddles or riding a bike, why would you do that on purpose?

This looks like a combination between a total dork and a hipster. Who the hell would dress like that in public?

This is terrible. Just...terrible. Especially on the dude.

I will admit to folding my pant legs up when I ride my bike. Unless I have those little elastic thingies on me.

Not really seeing it... is it the creased fold that's the difference? 😕

Maybe they are one and the same. I'm no guru. to me it looks like the girl on the right rolled her jeans rather than giving them a more defined cuff.

Speaking of questionable male clothing trends, anyone here remember manpris?

Hideous!

Have you ever been to Greenwich Village or Williamsburg?

IMHO, there's only two cuffs that make sense for guys (besides the ones mentioned by Cliff):
1.) You're tall and going for a traditional look with your suit/dress pants/khakis and have them tailored to be cuffed or came cuffed (I prefer no cuffs, as it's more modern, but allegedly cuffed pants are coming back)
2.) You're wearing boots. It's both functional and can look good, if you have good boots and jeans. I've seen people from all different walks of life and styles do this, from A-Z, whether it's the Japanese denim afficionados, downtown hipsters, classic American Kennedy types, uptown preps, Flatbush, whatever.

Those ones pictured are those fashion foward atrocities all because [I'm forgetting his name now] started designing/selling those undersized suits in NYC that all the yuppies started buying in the mid-noughties. With that in mind, you'll see countless yuppies and artists cuffed and rolled like that in the Village and Park Slope from May-September. (if you need non-NY references, think Portland or Omaha).

This poll is biased against those of us who do not wear pants.

I'm not a very tall woman- I stand at 4'10, and I have never cuffed or rolled my pants. Sure, they shred, but that just adds to the mystery, baby.
