Pre-Meds, what was your first year GPA and what did you learn?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
1. 3.6

2. English classes can be hard, esp. if it's you and 15 english majors applying for grad school in the class.

3. I hate english...but I already knew that from high school, so neutral effect?

1. What was your first year GPA?

2. What did you learn from your first year of college?

3. How much did it help or hurt you?

1. 1.9-2.0
2. Life... (Divorce, childcustudy and two full time jobs for finacial reasons)
3. Hurt alot. 4.0's every semester with one 3.8 and still looking at a 3.3-3.5 cgpa.🙁

3.5

To have more fun (go out, drink more), take "boaster" class for my BCMP (i.e. plant bio and eeob)

It didn't really help nor hurt....looking back from a med student point of view, you could probably go out 3-4 nights a week and do a ton of non-school related stuff AND still ace your classes if you dont f*ck around when you study (i.e. being on facebook, sdn, youtube, etc).

1) 3.71

2) I hate chemistry; love psychology. Not to burn myself out with too many hard classes at once and to try and take things I'll actually enjoy.

3)So far it has helped me, but pending my GPA this semester, my year long for 2010-2011 should be roughly the same *knock on wood* :xf:
The only thing I think that may have hurt me, was electing to be in the honors college. I don't necessarily regret it yet, but if I hadn't done it I would've made a bigger dent in my major classes (12 credits to be exact for just freshman year) and possibly would've been able to double major

1. 1.833

2. Going to class is important but going to exams is even more important. I did absolutely nothing my first year. But this laziness and downfall is what made me the hard worker I am today (not perfect, but much better!)

3. I have had very good semesters and just graduated with a 3.37 (but my 1.833 was eventually turned into a 2.5 for the first semester as I failed one class and the grade was replaced). But if I apply for Research medical school or any academic related things, I get asked "what the hell happened first semester"? Will be attending WVSOM!

1. What was your first year GPA? 4.0

2. What did you learn from your first year of college? That 90% of people at community college are grade A *****s.

3. How much did it help or hurt you? I lost my faith in humanity.

Also, congratz on a thread thats a little different, same general theme, but a step in the right direction!

lmao

1. 1st semester 3.66 gpa
2. I learned that I could be a straight "A" Student in college if I actually went to class. Who knew attendance was required in ECONOMICS??
3. It made me realized that even if you Ace all the exams and do all the homework you can still get a "B" in economics if you only go to class on test days =/

3.91

I don't know if I can take 3 more years of this 😱

3. How much did it help or hurt you?
I'll just deal... but I don't know if it's really smart to set a high ceiling from the very start since anything under it will constitute a downward trend

I miss this guy.

1. 3.1 or so

2. Don't ever drink large quantities of alcohol next to large bodies of water. Also, if you take a class that you decide you don't like, take the time to do the paperwork and withdraw from it. Don't ignore the class and fail by default or it could come back to haunt you ten years from now.

3. The alcohol one didn't kill me because I was lucky enough to swim in the right direction. The ignoring class hurt me plenty, especially because it was statistics class, which most med schools recommend. Now I need to try to jam that class into a year that's already full of ochem, physics and biology.

1. 4.0
2. I need to get out more
3. Definitely helped me keep up the trend.

1. 3.2
2. Getting drunk is fun
3. Not so much when you have a gen chem test the next day

1. 0.0; 15 credits. Ouch.

2. Girls rock.

3. We'll see how the app cycle goes.

1. 3.78
2. Not that bad. Need to study well in advance. Drop courses whenever you need, choose lighter workload courses if at all possible
3. Final GPA of 3.76, so I'm the king of above average consistency 😀

3.83

I learned not to take professors who are hired only for their research abilities.
This is my life right now. My anatomy professor is doing some cancer research and he's extremely intelligent but he cannot teach. The class average for our first test as a 50! The highest grades, myself and a friend, were 78. Most people in my class were with me for anatomy 1 and we all passed so obviously it's not the students. Also he gave us an ultimatum last night: "tattle on 4 of your classmates or get out of my class" thank you research ability!
