Hey all, long story short... I submitted my application to PA school this cycle but am now having second thoughts. The more and more I think about it, the more and more I feel as though I am selling myself short by not even attempting to go for MD/DO. My sGPA is competitive in the schools I am considering and my extracurriculars are decent, but, I have yet to take the MCAT and have 2 outstanding pre-reqs that need to be completed (Organic 2 and biochemistry).

My plan was to take these 2 classes at a community college next year whilst studying for the MCAT which I would take sometime in May before applying in the 2017-2018 cycle.

My question is, how feasible is this? I think my biggest fear right now is just the MCAT as I have a terrible track record with standardized tests, but I am hoping to begin studying now and be ready to take it in May after completing biochemsitry/organic 2.

The MCAT is wall. Learning to scale it takes time and dedication. IMO you can learn both orgo2 and b/c on your own for the MCAT. The current prep books are fine for this. Supplement with Khan if needed. I would advise to take a 2-3 months just for the exam. Study hard and work harder. Take practice exams to build endurance. I liked next step. Don't take the exam if your not ready. I think you plan is feasible is you take it extremely seriously.

If you have a good GPA, competitive application and can score well on the MCAT, of course it is feasible. You could provide us with some more info (GPA, ECs, etc).

Also, I am not sure I would recommend taking those classes at a CC. Take them at a 4 year

Problem solved: study hard for the MCAT and take it (after you finish the courses with pertinent material and months of dedicated prep) and if you do well then apply to med school, if your score sucks then stick with PA.

Idk PA is a pretty cush gig. You make roughly half what a PCP makes but at 1/4 the training. It really depends on your personality. Are you the workaholic type? Do you easily absorb volumes of material that would break a normal human being and think you can keep it up for years and years? Do you hate yourself? Then medical school might be for you. Give the MCAT a try.

"Selling yourself short" is a tough nagging doubt to live with -- for some people, not for all. You? The day-to-day work of a PA can be very similar to the day-to-day work of a primary care physician except for the 'ultimately being in charge' part. Is that something you would need? And how would you feel if you don't do well enough on the MCAT? So if you were to 'fall short' in stead? All questions to think about.

But the 'how to' question has been answered -- Take the classes (or DIY), study for the MCAT, give it your best shot --
