I want to get a breast augmentation done and the doctor says I should take a week off from work to recover. Am I able to pre-plan "sick days" in advance at CVS? I don't want to use my vacation days if possible.

They aren't allowed to ask or require a doctors note.

If you're unable to work for health reasons, it shouldn't matter, even for cosmetic surgery.

I do this all the time. You use it or lose it. Sometimes I take a week off using sick time to go on trips.

Medical procedure, medical conditions /infections, doctor / pet appointments, SO/dog/kids sick as an excuse work.

Do not leave money on the table.

Technically vet appointments, caring for some random great-aunt or niece, whatever, would not be covered under WM's sick pay policy even for California. Wonder if you could get terminated for an integrity violation if discovered (LOL)

That's why you need to have a great relationship with your scheduler. I get what I want than what most rphs wouldn't get away with.

Just put in request for medical procedure. What you're off for is no one's business

Just don't be a dumb ass, posting the beach picture on the same day.

Wouldn't matter. There's case law on this matter that if the MD provides the sick note, the employer would have to take it to Occupational Health (as in another physician examination) to disqualify. And, quite a number of us guys could do with a little Korean CS magic themselves.

Your supervisor may have you do a LOA - leave of absence. You have free short term disability insurance provided you have benefits with the company. They do require note/document from doctor.

Not trying to hijack the thread, but I've never thought of pre planning sick days before. Would CVS pay you for a sick day if you have a some dental work done.

Yes, all the retail chains will.

I was told attendance policy changed. We used to have 3 sick occurrences and it didn’t matter how many days you took for each. Now as of this year we can have three sick occurrence each missed shift counts as one occurrence and after the third is a write up. After the 11th in a rolling period is termination. I have the policy written out at the store provided from my new district leader. Not sure if they is company wide. But told it will be the same for techs.

I have lost faith & trust in humans after working for 3 letter chains due to "sick" days. Machines, for the most part can be fixed whereas humans can not be "fixed" so easily...

I have used 1 sick day (influenza) in 10+ years combo working as rph/tech (I must not be human compared to the average rph/tech at my store...many of whom should have been fired multiple times simply from the # of call outs). **** the SYSTEM

If you work in a saturated area and find your own coverage for sick days the scheduler will not be concerned about it. But if you don't find your own coverage the scheduler will complain about it and you will eventually face consequences.

Karma will catch up to you eventually
Karma for what lol?

I'm happy, and scheduler is happy to give my hours to part timers who struggle to get some hours. Durrr...

It sounds like your district leader is pulling things out of their butt and screwing you over

I guess you can't realize how selfish you are
Not really, sick time is meant to be used.

I'm sure CVS is happy and give you 50k bonus to never call in sick hahaha

I'm no dummy to leave money on the table every yr. Doctor appt, eye, dental, not feeling well, 5 days/yr paid. Part timer is happy, I'm happy. The only sucker is you and cvs. 😛

What about the shareholders, won’t someone please think of the shareholders?!

You can put in sick time yourself as well and switch shifts between your staff. I never call out sick if I need a day off i’ll switch with my staff. I try to save the sick hours. I usually add the sick hours towards then end of year once i’m maxed out on some taxes to get the most out of them but agree it’s stupid to leave them on the table. Use them all along with Vacation.

My scheduler always gives me a hard time about sick days...'I need you to open the store until I find relief', doctor appointment on day x? Why can't you trade days with your partner/schedule appointment on one of your off days...etc

You can use sick time for doctor's appointments on your scheduled workdays?? What do they find coverage for 1 hour? Every rph I know schedules them on their day off.

The Austin scheduler was like this.
"I need..." and she'd follow up with, "so you're going to be in, right?"
Not sure if it was a script.

This was when I was younger and less aggressive, so I'd say, "I know" or "ok" .
She'd then ask if I would be in and I'd say "no ma'am".

She never did me any favors, but I didn't let some glorified cashier bully me

If you have sick days to use, then use em. Its part of your total compensation.

Don't let a scheduler give you **** for taking a sick day. Maybe they should do their job instead of complaining.

This is essentially what it breaks down to.
The scheduler is probably literally a cashier that got promoted and has the work ethic of a cashier.

You have to manage them just like you would any clerk

Just say you're having surgery. If they ask why tell em to f off. Of course when you come in with your new huge rack you will get some comments...

If you have allotted sick days, I totally agree with you. When I left CVS it was unlimited, so I don’t think it’s right to abuse that.

Do you get an "occurance" if you pre-plan a sick day for dental work?

Probably one of the smartest things CVS ever did, as a company you of course want young, healthy people who can continue to be a good drone, and then you tell them they have "unlimited" sick time. Everyone thinks this policy is so generous, yet because you keep your staff on the younger side, they don't actually take much sick time and feel guilty every time they actually need to. If CVS defined a set amount of time people can take during the year, around 95% of your work force would take exactly that amount of time, so instead, 70% of higher level staff take a max of 1 or 2 days a year. You do have a few outliers that need a lot of sick time, but that is simple, after 1 week you put them on short term disability where they only get 60% of pay for a few weeks and then they are SOL.

I have relatives who work for the government that have accrued over a year of sick leave which will be taken conveniently right before retirement, I guarantee you that almost no pharmacist for CVS will ever get even close to 2 months during their careers.

My younger employees call out WAY more often than my older employees. I love the age 50+ employees, reliable, mature, professional...mostly anyway.

Rite aid used to be unlimited sick time. But good luck trying to use any of it. Call the scheduler and tell them your sick. They'll ask if you called your partner to cover. If the partner couldn't do it they ask you to cover till they find someone. If you're stupid enough to go in guess what? They never find coverage and your stuck.

Plastic surgery is technically not covered under any sick time plans or qualify you for a medical leave...

I love hospitals and ET. Holidays, vacations, sick days, personal days, education days all rolled into one. No need to lie to get time off, and no need to feel punished by not lying and never taking sick days. Earned Time the great equalizer.
