When you apply, do you have to have ALL the pre-req. classes completed already? Is it possible to apply without a couple, and tell the school you'll take it later that year, or the following year? Thanks in advance

from all the research I've done most schools will admit you as long as you finish all your pre-reqs before starting optometry school. It is like a conditional acceptance. Most schools like you to have no more than two of the pre-reqs remaining when you apply.

As long as you finish all your prereq's by the time you plan on starting opt school you should be fine. I still had 4 left when I applied. Once you get accepted you can even slack off and get C's in your left over prereq's heheheh...... 😀

As long as you don't have too many unfineshed pre-reqs, you should be fine. Especially if those pre-reqs are non-science ones. When I applied to UCB, I still had not taken anatomy, my second biology course, and animal phsyiology lab.

I took the anatomy course at a CC because it wasn't offered with lab at my school. I could have taken it at Berkeley, but I wanted to actually enjoy my summer!

has anyone heard of a specific school not letting you apply before completing the pre-reqs? i was looking at the UHCO website and it says they want you complete before even applying... i was going to call to double check but then realized it was saturday (its my spring break so I'm a little lost on what day it is hehe)

Wow, old thread.

It doesn't make sense for them to say that since most people are applying the summer after their junior year, thus most people still have pre-reqs to finish. I'm not sure where you got that info but their website says "Students may apply for admission while completing their admission requirements". So there you go! 🙂

It said you should be thinking about finishing your pre-req's your junior year. most people have been saying oh a few classes is ok. the only reason i had a problem is because i'm a post-bach only taking the pre-req's and so i have a good handful to complete when applying. i have set up an appointment with the advisor so im good to go.
