Pre-req Completion?

When do you have to have your pre-req courses completed by when applying for Medical school?

I plan to take some pre-req courses the summer of my secondaries and before interviewing. Is this ok? For instance, I will be taking a pre-req course this summer and I send our my applications this summer in June. Thanks.

Most medical schools (or at least the ones on my radar) require all pre-reqs to be taken before matriculation. You can apply, interview and be accepted for medical school before completing pre-reqs. Keep in mind though that a number of pre-reqs may be necessary for optimal success on the MCAT (biochem, physics, etc). Check out the admissions FAQs on the websites of the schools you are applying to, just to be sure.

You certainly want to have a good chunk of them completed at time of application. This helps with MCAT study/prep too. Not having one or two isn’t an issue but will be required to complete by matriculation.

Historically:
-By Application Time: Temple, VCU, Davis. Used to be on Wake's website, too. Columbia allows the lack of 2 prerequisites only.

-By spring: Penn State, Cornell, Vanderbilt.
