I took almost all my pre-req courses at a CC except Organic chemistry and biochem which i am taking now. I decided to go to a CC because at that time i didn't really know what to do with my life and now i feel like its a mistake 🙁. Most Dental schools don't accept them like NYU, Tufts which are actually very close to where i live. I don't know what to do. Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated. I finished CC with a 3.5 gpa and mostly As, a few Bs in my pre-req courses and now am at a 4 yr college with a 3.7 gpa so far. 150+ hrs volunteer work, 120 hrs shadowing. I plan on taking my DAT early next year...please Help what should i do? :scared:

Hey, don't stress out too much 🙂 True, dental schools would rather you take classes at a four year university instead of CC but that doesn't automatically disqualify you from all schools. In fact, I went to CC as a freshman and transferred to a four year university my sophomore year. A dental school admissions director told me that if I was getting A's in CC, I should also be getting A's at a University to show that I can perform just as well...and so I did. I shadowed a ton, volunteered, was a TA, researched, was on the cabinet of a club etc...anything that helped show I was a motivated, hard-working, well-rounded person. I rocked the DAT and here I am now, with two dental school acceptances and waiting to hear back from a third school. Just know that we are all rooting for you and you can do it!!!

Thanks a bunch and congrats!! I will try as much as i can to keep my gpa up to show that i can do equally great at any school, its just really scary knowing that i can't apply to some of my top schools.

Don't worry. It doesn't matter (speaking from experience)

Although I didn't apply there, NYU told me via email that they do consider applicants that took prerequisites at CC.

There is a huge misconception on these boards that it matters - realistically for 98% of the schools it doesn't.

Especially if you started out at a CC, it doesn't matter, as long as you've proved yourself at your 4-year uni.

Dental Schools understand that there are a myriad of reasons someone may not be able to attend a 4-year directly out of High School.
