I noticed that 1 of the classes thats required is a "Public Speaking" course. Does anyone know if there are ever any exceptions to having to take a pre req course?

You need to call them directly and ask. No one will be able to give you a definite answer unless they inquired about the same situation, same class, same job situation, at the same school.

Hi Everyone

I'm 28 and I'll by applying to Novasoutheastern in October. I noticed that 1 of the classes thats required is a "Public Speaking" course. Does anyone know if there are ever any exceptions to having to take a pre req course? I only ask because I've been in the Financial Industry for the last 6 years working with clients on a daily basis. Is this something that Admissions could possibly take into consideration?

This is something I'll ask during the interview but I'd like some feedback if anyone has had a similiar situation.

Thanks

G

It's hard to tell - but there is a chance the won't make an exception for you. My personal case - I have failed one of the freshmen intro general biology courses several years ago. Since then - I have taken numerous upper division biology classes and graduate level classes that have far far exceeded that basic general bio course. I have also aced all of them so I contacted the schools to see if they would take upper division classes into consideration and guess what - no, I am currently taking that general class and feel like a complete idiot - because some of my friends - are actually teaching lab sections for this very same course. So as redundant as it may be - you may unfortunately have to do it.

I highly doubt they will make exemptions for the public speaking requirement. I took calc 1 as an AP course in high school about 8 years ago and took calc 2, calc 3, and diff eq in college (b.s. engineering) and NSU still required me to send my archived AP transcripts to prove I had calc 1. In other words, I have not seen them make exceptions to waive prereqs. Public speaking is an easy course and will likely be cake for you, just take it and get the A.

Yes, it's highly unlikely they would make the exception that you wouldn't have to take it. I had to take an Intro. to Speech course as well. Very easy. Gave a few speeches and got an A. No big deal. It's good practice anyway, from what I hear there are many presentations/speeches to be given in pharmacy school.

If it helps, most community colleges in the area offer that class online. You just have to record yourself, but it'd be very convenient for you not having to go to class.

The best way is to contact the school.

Some schools, will waive some prereqs if you have a b.s. degree.🙂

How odd! I was kind of in the same boat you are, but I found that most schools do not require "Gen Bio I & Gen Bio II", but instead state their requirements as "8 units of General Biology" sometimes with stipulations of what those courses require like "plant & animal bio". I got away with it at every school I applied to (11 total). Of course I had had botany, comparative anatomy, genetics, vertebrate phys. etc that were not required in other sections of the prereqs. Weird. Sorry you have to be stuck in that stupid course. :meanie: I hated it. We both should've passed in the first place, but what do you do.
