I got my BA in Sociology from UCSB in 1998. I took two bio courses in 94-95 - one quarter of Zoology 25 and one quarter of Biology 20 - both WITHOUT a lab.

I am now trying to take all my pre-reqs asap to possibly apply in '08. Should I assume that either of those Bio classes I took over 10 years ago count towards the Bio pre-req? I'm planning on taking BIO 1 w/ lab at a CC this summer -- IS it possible that my old classes could cancel out the new one?

ALSO - if I took one quarter of a Physics class - can I just take one more full semester at another school and complete the 1 year req? How do quarters transfer into semesters?

thanks.

honestly, I don't think ur ready for 2008 cycle.... maybe if you start this summer and take full load classes (during fall2007 and spring2008) for the next 12 months or so AND take the DAT by summer 2008, you'll bairly be ready for 2009 cycle....

If I was you, I would start 100% ALL FREASH and take all your classes at a 4-year university, Im not saying Comunity college credits are bad, but dental schools "prefer" people with university level courses.

If your starting out all freash, you need the following:
General Chemistry I + lab
General Chemistry II + lab

Organic I
Organic II
Organic lab

Biology I + lab
Biology II + lab

keep in mind these are bare minimum, some schools require even more like biochem / microbio / etc etc.

With some of your courses over a decade old, you have a lot to do before you apply.

I had a B.A. in psychology and went back to take all of the pre-reqs Nasem listed.

Also, I am not sure if this applies, but if your biology classes were non-major you won't be able to use them as your pre-reqs.

Do not be discouraged. It took me nearly three years from the time I committed to going to dental school to get to where I am now.

UCSB lovely place, i partied quite a bit in IV on DP.
I think your best bet would be to start over on your pre-reqs so that it will help you study for the DAT.
If you can afford it go to a 4 year college to complete your pre-reqs if not a CC would work but might limit some of the colleges you can apply to.

if you retook your classes it would cancel it out since you took your other classes 10 years ago, but they would still effect your GPA when you apply. but the schools might overlook that since it was soo long ago.

Schools vary in their prerequiste requirements. Get your info directly from them (ie - their website or call them up)
