Hi there
I am applying to UM dental but taking my pre-reqs at Eastern Michigan. I have to take microbio and biochem and the courses i registered for are Introductory microbio (3 cre) and foundation of biochem ( 4 cre). The syllabus for intro to microbio says that its for allied health and non science majors and those who are pre dent/pre med should take general micro which is actually credits. I sent UM an email asking them if the introductory micro is ok since they need 3 credits for the pre req and this is exactly 3 and they said i am good to go but Im kind of nervous still. Anyone have any experience with this??

Yeh U of Mich requires a longer list of pre-reqs that any other dental school that I am aware of.

My understanding has always been that they want to see the students take the pre-med / pre-dent courses. The 300 and 400 level Biochem and Microbio..... Ofc, this is kind of a grayish area because on their website, it doesn't specify which type of credits they want to see. It just says "3 credits of this".... Without specifying the level of the course.

Give Tracy a call, see what she'll have to say. Tell her that this is an introductory course designed for non-prehealth students.

By the way, just to make you feel better, EVEN if you applied and later learned that those classes don't satisfy their requirements, you can still take them in the gap year before matriculating.

yeah. I thin k i will call again tomrorow. I called today and KEvin (new guy) answered and talked to pattie and told me they r ok. The intro to micro and biochem are 30 level classes but micro is designed for non-science majors so i felt like they might have given me the wrong info. I am trying real hard NOT to have to take any classes past this summer. These are the only two left so i just wanted to have them over with. But thanks for the tip!
By the way dentalworks...i sent u a PM a few days ago...did you ever receive it??
