Hi all! I was talking to the advisor at WesternU about pre-reqs that weren’t on their pre-req database and she told me to send her the syllabi of the classes I wasn’t sure of. So I did, but she hasn’t replied yet….we had talked about other stuff last week and she responded the next day if not the same day…but she hasn’t got back to me for about 1.5 weeks. What should I do? I don’t think calling them would be a good idea because in case they want some prove later on in the application process, it’d be better to have a written copy..anyways, any suggestions of what to do?

The ones I am having question with are the upper level bio and public speaking/group discussion. Do marine biology and limnology satisfy the upper level bio requirement? My limnology class is a 400-level class but the marine biology is named Biol 250. It has labs and field trips and we have to write weekly papers on top of a scientific research paper. As for the public speaking class, I think I read somewhere in the past year’s thread that the name of the course has to be “public speaking” or something. Does anyone have any idea????

Btw, is anyone applying to western U for c/o 2015????? Or is anyone familiar with their process? For the limit of having only 2 pre-reqs not completed..does it only apply to the upper-division bio and genetics class? Is it okay if I take a public speaking class later in the spring?
Thanks!!!

Hi all! I was talking to the advisor at WesternU about pre-reqs that weren't on their pre-req database and she told me to send her the syllabi of the classes I wasn't sure of. Give her more time. These things often have to get approved or run past several people. That just takes time. Keep in mind that most vet schools have well over 1,000 applicants. And most applicants are likely to have questions about the application process.

If you don't hear from her by the end of next week, a gentle e-mail reminder would be appropriate. Until then, chill.

I can't answer the rest of your questions because I don't know anything about Western's requirements.

I think an upper-division class is anything 300 level or higher. You can double check with the marine bio class, but I don't think that qualifies.

It depends on the school. For my undergrad 200 levels were upper level... but then we only had up to 300 levels. If anything, ask your school's registrar or pre-health adviser if you're itching for some form of answer before you hear back from western.

In my school, it doesn't really matter. Some of the courses just have pre-reqs that need to be completed in order to register for those classes. When I asked earlier about the pre-req to the advisor, she said that the course number doesn't matter, she just wanted to see the syllabi, that's why I sent it to her. I also read somewhere on this forum earlier that marine bio might qualify, but I am not sure…..it didn't specify on WesternU's website ..grr I am so patient…lol

Thanks!!!

I took public speaking during the interview process, which is the very last semester before they make decisions 😛. In fact, I found out I was accepted right after coming home from one of my graded speeches.

I doubt they've changed the requirements since the last cycle, though I still recommend calling.

Were you in a semester or quarter system? The time during interview process is my winter quarter. And I have a spring quarter after that…I am planning on finishing all the requirements in Winter quarter though..so hopefully they won’t mind much about that.

It's a semester system, so my pub spk class extended all the way into May. I really don't think they will mind, but again, I recommend calling/emailing.

I don't know if this helps, but I also finished my biochem course in December and received official fall transcripts in January. I had to send updated transcripts prior to June 1st.

I am planning on doing that! I''ll be taking some pre-req in Autumn quarter so i'll send them a updated transcript when its over. Thanks for your info!
I'll wait until Monday or Tuesday and give them a call.

If you don't get a response within 2 weeks, send another email. They're very busy fielding application questions and may even be trying to squeeze in a vacation before the new class starts next month, so it's easy for a single email to get lost in the shuffle. Give a reasonable amount of time for a response, then try emailing again. Include your phone number in the email so they have the option of calling if they feel that would be a better way to address your concerns.

I just sent a reminder email to them last night, hopefully they'll reply soon! I know WesternU's semester is starting beginning Aug 2, starting with orientation and stuff, so they might be busy..or like your said, vacation 🙁
thank you all for your advice!!!!
