Hi all, posting for a friend who confronted me with this question. I am finishing med school but have had no experience with post-bacc programs and thought I would seek your experience/expertise (and couldn't find a similar thread in search). Any advise you can give is sincerely appreciated.

The situation: college graduate in '03 who completed pre-med reqs while in undergrad, good gpa and has research, volunteering experience, studying for and taking mcat now. Past 5 years has been working for and volunteering with environmental conservation groups.

The question: is a post-bacc program appropriate/required for this type of candidate (graduated +5 years ago), or do people recommend going straight ahead and applying?

Thanks, deeply appreciative for any thoughts or suggestions.

Unless they need to improve their pre req grades or refresh their skills for the mcat then retaking pre req classes is not really necessary. What he/she might want to do is do a one year post bacc and take some upper level sciences and health electives, if not for the grades then just to get used to school again.
