Re-joining the club again after a long series of family, health and personal challenges and am in need of only a few pre-req's. to apply to DO programs. I've been told that my current s-pre req's have no expiration but since its been about 8 years since I've taken those courses, its best for me to review them in addition to taking my un-completed pre.-req.'s (O-Chem, Physics).

Curious on the experiences and opinions of others in their quest to complete appropriate pre-req's for admissions and mcat prep. Given that I need to review the other courses anyhow since its been so long, should I try and map out my own plan to take the courses or am I best to give this challenge to a post-bacc program where everything is organized...I know cost is a consideration but I want to make sure I'm best prepared and have a solid foundation for applications.

My SO's cousin had a similar issue where he had a degree in something that didn't involve science and ended up just retaking everything for a new BS. The logic was that since it's been so long, he wanted to review everything and kick butt to raise his GPA.

I guess there needs to be more information from you for us to give a good opinion. What was your Bachelor's in? Is a BS within your realm of possibilities? Do you need to raise your GPA?

I am not too sure but are there post-bac programs which don't require the basic med school pre-reqs?

Thanks WDW for the feedback.

Initially I started out on pre-med track with Bio. focus. At this time I completed everything except 2nd semester physics, o-chem, biochem and a & p. Completed inorganic chem., bio, genetics.... and then my 8 year track started to complete my BS.

Finally completed BS in Healthcare Management. Oddly however where I graduated, they took into consideration my gpa from the prior university instead of just taking as credit. Anyhow, my BS-HM GPA is a 3.7. Believe my sGPA was 3.4/5. Would like to obviously bring up the sGPA to be more competitive.

Also, curious how schools would look at my "current" sGPA once I re-take the courses vs. the old sGPA. Would they take the higher of the two or just the most recent? Curious.
