I may be very uninformed here, but I am also in an other-world situation. I will most likely be short two pre-requisite courses, assuming I matriculate to any MD or MD/PhD course - a chemistry and a biology. This may seem like a stupid question, but based on this topic it seems as if the program starts the summer of matriculation? Would I be completely out of the running at this point since I can't complete the pre-reqs before the summer rotations start?

Judging by your past posts, you are planning to apply this fall for matriculation in 2013--is that correct? Med schools prereqs are pretty basic usually, and since MD/PhD applicants are usually science majors they have no problem fulfilling them. 2 semesters biology, 2 semesters each of basic and organic chemistry, 2 semesters physics, maybe English or calculus for a few schools--those are pretty basic requirements that virtually all science majors have to take to graduate.

Is there no way you can fit in the courses you lack in this summer or next year? If it really comes to it, the rotation the summer before you start medical school isn't mandatory at all schools, so you could potentially do it then. If you can't, the school likely won't allow you to matriculate as you haven't met all their requirements.

You're right, but at the rate it's going (MCAT wise) it probably won't happen, at least for MD/PhD 2013.

I could do it if I am allowed to take something like 26 credits before matriculation. I have set semester "blocks"; scheduling out 2 classes with recitation and labs will be a nightmare but if I have to, I will do it.

But for now, let's assume I can't. I can only ask the schools to forgo the summer rotation so I can complete my pre-reqs?

Most med school's policy (and by default MD/PhD program's also) is that you must have your pre-reqs done by the time you matriculate into med school. So yeah, you probably will need to either schedule it in somehow or not do a summer rotation.

I see, thanks. Hopefully I can forgo the summer rotation, but if not, it's going to be a very busy semester for me. And I work!
