I know, I know, I shouldn't study before dental school starts for fear of burnout, but I have some time on my hands and would really like to be productive. I have a job, but hours have been seldom recently and I find myself just watching the office repeats on netflix... Can anyone point me in the right direction to materials that might be high yield for dental school? I'd like to find something to study that I will absolutely need to know "down pat" for dental school. I figure, even if what I study now is covered in only one day of dental school, that's one day less of stress. Help me d-students! Thanks for any advice, I really do appreciate all your contributions to this site.

I would pick up a hobby for that free time. Hang out with some friends. Enjoy your free time. Seriously... but if you are hellbent on it, study the anatomy of the head and neck. Know the details, not just the basics.

Don't study before dental school. Seriously, just don't.

Before I started school this year, I would see people write on here "don't study before school, it is a waste of time." I always thought, oh come on it couldn't hurt, it would only make it easier even if it is just a little bit. No. Don't. I didn't study before hand and I'm glad I didn't. I would not have even skimmed the surface if I had. It is a lot of information that you will not even make a dent in if you try on your own. You have plenty if time to learn it, so don't worry.

Definitely have some fun and take some time to do something you enjoy before starting.

i found out it's really hard to motivate myself to study hard unless I have the pressure of an upcoming exam. leisurely studying in the summer isn't going to help you much in dental school and it'll be a waste of time. if you could study as hard as you would in dental school right now then studying in the summer would be helpful. dude have some fun. there're no more breaks from now on.

don't engage in activities that kill your study habits or are mind numbing like watching tv all day. go read a book. have some social fun. go hiking. the best activities are the ones that you've never tried before. just because it's a time off doesn't mean you can get lazy. the worst thing you can do is develop lazy habits right before dental school. I'm two semesters into dental school and i don't remember the last time I went outside and just enjoyed the weather (i'm exaggerating).

Read a book. You wont do that for fun, for a while.

Get a second job.
Get a hobby: I would have learned to program like java or python or something like that.
I doubt you'll actually study, but: get notes from someone in your school and review the powerpoints: this is the most high yield.
