How much did a summer preceptorship in internal medicine or EM help u guys for 3rd year? I really dont want to do a preceptorship this summer, (after ms1) , just wondering if its really worth it.

I wanted to just shadow docs and do some research but i dont want o feel unprepared for 3rd year, like taking hostories, and etc. So if u guys feel that preceptorships taught u alot, i think ill do it.

thanks

Omar

From a slightly different point of view, I didn't do a preceptorship before 3rd year and I didn't feel disadvantaged because of it. No one expects you to know what you're doing at the beginning of 3rd year anyway.

thanks guys

thats what i was hoping to hear

peace

Preceptorship doesn't help with 3rd year, specifically. You gain experience if your preceptor allows to do H&P's, but you'll get plenty of that 3rd year anyways. It's a matter of how fast you want to move down that learning curve.

Do research if you wanna do research. It may help if you wanna do competitive programs. Otherwise, the preceptorship helps you think about what specialty you might wanna do.
