Is there any predictions on MCAT scores for a Bio Major at UCI with a 3.9 and 1300 on the SAT's. I only ask because I want to get an idea what people expect with this GPA and what is possible with an SAT like that.

SAT's probably only correlate with the verbal section of the MCAT's. The best predictor of your score are your practice test scores. If you are really curious, you can purchase one of the old AAMC's test and take one and see how you score under timed conditions. The test takes a full day to take though, so unless you are really curious, I'd recc just finding out when it comes time to study for the test and you are taking practice tests then.

haha thats a good one. Just because you get a 3.9 in college doesn't mean you're smart neither does a 33 + on the MCAT. I think the MCAT involves a lot of luck. Most of the people who take it get lower than their highest practice test. It's bull**** you can study for ever and get screwed in the end because they asked questions on material that you didn't focus on enough or you could have a bad day. Have fun

it's really, really tough to accurately predict mcat performance. (personally, i performed ~3 points less than my avg practice test. i was still accepted in october, but let's just say that i was unpleasantly surprised when i received my results back in june)

I'll predict it with a large margin of error: 30-35

i dont think the sat score means anything.

3.9 cant predict anything as well.

but if was a betting man....
25-33 is what i would bet on. if it falls within there just call me ms cleo.

I think there's probably some correlation between MCAT and SAT, just because they both (unintentionally) measure how good you are at taking standardized tests, even if the subject matter is different. I think your ability at taking tests gives you a range of possible scores, and your preparation before and luck on the test day determines what you'll get.
With a 1300 on the SAT (assuming a relatively even verbal/math split), I would predict a 31-35. But I am just guessing.

Don't study. You'll get a 45. I am never wrong when I make predictions.

11ps, 11bs, 6vr, Ows.

You better get that VR score up, or your screwed.😕

The AAMC exams are a good predictor of how you will perform on the actual MCAT. Many people I know (as well as me) got the exact score as was obtained on their last practice exam, with a different distribution of scores. I also know some very smart folks who were relatively good test takers that didn't score as high as some of the predictions made here.

The moral of the story: Take a practice test and you'll get your best estimate without guesstimating based on your SAT and GPA.

Why don't you take a practice test and see what you get?

But I wouldn't expect to get the exact same composite score as your last practice exam. I actually scored 2 points higher on that test compared to the real MCAT, but my real MCAT was at my average (of the last 5 practice tests I took).

Very very true... esp. when some topics are covered more extensively on some exams than others...

I still see the AAMC practice exams as a relatively close predictor, especially considering that the exams are, in a way, coming right from the horses mouth.

Your SAT more than your GPA is a predictor of your MCAT score, given that both are standardized, critical thinking tests. I think there was a thread on SAT/MCAT correlation before, you an search for it. If i remember correctly from the unscientific calculation, a 1300 roughly correlates with a 31/32.

The AMMC practice tests, especially the recent ones are excellent predictors of how you'll do. I scored within a point of my AAMC practice test averages.

I never broke 28 on the PR practice exams, but got a 36 on the MCAT.

Perhaps one explanation would be that the PR exams came earlier in my preparation than the AAMC exams, so the latter did a better job of predicting my score (2 days before the MCAT I took an AAMC practice and scored 12,12,12; two days later I scored 10, 13, 13 on the real thing).

I agree with the previous posters: AAMC practice exams are a good indicator of MCAT performance.

That's why you don't cram for the MCAT. Despite what kaplan says, flash cards are of little value. Read alot, improve your speed and comprehension and you will surprise yourself.

Just do a lot of practice tests and you should do just fine.

Thanks guys. I think I'll just go take a practice tests one of these days. I still have a while until I take the real thing. Anyone know of some good practice tests that actually resemble the real thing, other than the AAMC tests. I think I am gonna save those for when I start my prep. Thanks.

I agree that gpa has nothing to do with mcat score. just having a 3.9 does not secure any kind of score/score range. i know people from berkeley (my undergrad) who had a 3.9 and got a 32, and some people who had around a 3.4 and got a 38!! so you just have to practice, practice, practice and go in with the mentality that your sat score does not secure any kind of mcat score either. THE SATs are SO different from the mcat. i had a 1450 on the mcat and i certainly did not get above a 35.

Good luck.
