Hello all, I would greatly appreciate if some advice can be given to me on how to make the best of the 4 years in the PharmD program. Are summer classes advisable to finish faster?...Should i work while I attend, or are internships better? What is the best way to finance the degree? I've heard that if you accept loans, it is harder to obtain financial aid grants there after??? Any tips or opinions on anything else whilst in the PharmD program? Or even suggestions on what to do while in the program that might increase the chances of having a job post graduating and passing the NAPLEX!!?!?!....I thank you in advanced for any input, ideas, comments, or suggestions.😍👍

I really want to make the best of these next 4 years!

Any positive stories or learning expiriences are also welcomed!

About summer classes: my understanding is that unlike undergrad pharmacy programs have a set schedule in place and you can't exactly pick and choose you classes or take them in the summer. You stay with your entire class for the whole period of the school and the only classes you pick are your electives.

My advice to make the best of it: be as involved as you can in the ECs. It might compromise your grades but at least you'll have a strong resume by the time you graduate and a list of experiences you can present to potential employers or residency directors. I'm just a measley P1, so of course take my advice with a grain of salt.😳

Also take good physical care of yourself, it's easy to sleep into a pattern of eating trash food and not working out while you are in school. 🙂

aww Thank you so much for your advice...I am taking summer classes now. But maybe that wont be the case for future professional years. p1 are allowed to take a few classes in the summer at FAMU. I definately agree with you on the taking care of yourself!!! Thanks again!..How are you paying for the program?

I don't really believe there is a feasible way to accelerate the Pharm.D, even if you're allowed to take summer coursework. Remember, rotations take a while to set up and you need to so many to graduate.

In my honest opinion, you shouldn't worry so much. If you keep your grades up, get a good internship, network well, and maybe do a residency, your job prosepects are great. The NAPLEX is so easy to pass, I bet a High School senior could do it with 6 months and a study book. The MPJE I found to be more difficult.

Financing the degree can be daunting. I assume you have a degree. You will not receive much in the way of grants anyway if you have a degree. Expect to take out a lot of loans. That's just how it works.

I did not do diddly squat in Pharmacy School. I wasn't in any clubs, extracurriculars, etc. nor did I have that stellar of a GPA (thank you therapeutics) but I have a job and I make a good living.

First, I agree whole-heartedly with chebs. It looks like involvement in the various on-campus organizations is a great way to get out and do something and meet people. Regarding working: everyone has a different take on it. I can't intern until P2 year (Texas law!), so I'll still be working part-time as a tech (one or two weekends a month) until I get my intern license. I think a day or two a week is the most I would dedicate to a job outside of school.

Secondly, your signature... is... HUGE. 😀

THANK YOU!! you all are so great! Your input will be greatly considered! And about my signuture...i will change it...lol..im a noob here! =)

I guess im just getting ahead of myself and worrying too much! =) Thanks again!
